Physical separation around existing equipment

Fixed machine guard retrofits.

Replace missing, damaged or unsuitable guarding with bespoke steel, stainless-steel, mesh or clear panels that protect the hazard and still support the real production task.

Direct answer

What is a fixed machine guard retrofit?

It adds a tool-controlled physical barrier to existing machinery to prevent access to dangerous parts while allowing the visibility, ventilation and service access the application needs.

First preference where practical

A robust barrier that needs a tool to remove.

Fixed guards are often the most direct and reliable way to prevent access to dangerous moving parts. They are appropriate where routine access is not required and removal can be limited to maintenance under controlled isolation.

Retrofit design must account for reach distances, openings, ejected material, heat, dust, visibility, ventilation, cleaning, lubrication and the strength of both the guard and its mountings.

  • Point-of-operation barriers
  • Rear, side and underside panels
  • Product-infeed and discharge apertures
  • Fixed perimeter sections
  • Replacement panels and infills

Materials and construction

Selected for hazard and environment.

MILD STEEL

Powder-coated frames

A durable, adaptable option for general industrial areas, available with sheet, mesh or clear-panel infills.

STAINLESS STEEL

Hygienic or corrosive areas

Suitable construction for food, beverage, pharmaceutical, washdown or aggressive environments where specified.

MESH

Visibility and ventilation

Welded mesh can give operators a clear view while the aperture and hazard distance maintain protection.

CLEAR PANELS

Process observation

Polycarbonate can provide visibility and containment where impact, chemical exposure and cleaning are considered.

SHEET

Containment and separation

Solid panels can help contain swarf, dust, splash or fragments as part of the assessed enclosure design.

INDEPENDENT FRAME

Protect the original structure

Floor-mounted frames may avoid unsuitable machine fixings and create a maintainable, removable guarding system.

Design checks

Guard the hazard without creating another one.

Reach

Consider reach over, under, around and through openings in relation to the hazardous movement.

Strength

Design panels, posts, fixings and machine interfaces for foreseeable loads and the environment.

Task

Preserve safe access to adjustments, lubrication, inspection, cleaning and component replacement.

Removal

Make fixed sections removable only with a tool and define isolation before access where required.

Fixed or movable?

Access frequency drives the solution.

If a panel must be removed repeatedly during production, changeover or fault clearing, describing it as fixed does not solve the access need. A properly interlocked door or a redesigned task may be more suitable.

We identify required access early so the guarding concept supports both risk reduction and dependable operation.
